"I am Ramesh Nagaraj Rao. I am professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies and Theatre at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. I have a BA (Economics, Sociology, Political Science) from St. Joseph's College/Bangalore University. I received a post-graduate diploma in journalism from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore. I was awarded the prestigious K. M. Munshi award for the 1984 batch of journalism students at the Bhavan.
I worked as a bank officer, a school teacher and a copy editor in India before arriving in the US in 1985. I received an MS in Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi and my PhD in Communication from Michigan State University. I live in Farmville, Virginia, with my wife Sujaya, son Sudhanva and our cat Subba.
I have written numerous articles for regional newspapers like the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Columbia Daily Tribune in Missouri. My essays have appeared in "India Abroad" and I now write regularly for the United Press International's Religion and Spirituality Forum and for News Insight."
